This has been – and continues to be – an extraordinary project. There are seemingly endlessly fascinating stories about these wartime events which continue to surface. In the course of my research for this book and work associated with the filming of The Rape of Europa documentary, I was fortunate to visit some historic sites where pivotal events occurred during the war. The publishing of Rescuing Da Vinci also provided a whole new range of experiences as I watched the first pages of the book roll off the printing press in Singapore. We have selected certain photos from my travels and juxtaposed many of them with wartime photos of the same place to share my experience with you and provide a sort of travel log for those of you who may be interested in visiting one or more of these places on a future trip.
